Trump Issues Threat to Revoke Rosie O’Donnell’s Citizenship Amid Ongoing Feud
The longstanding conflict between Donald Trump and comedian Rosie O’Donnell has taken a new and dramatic twist. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump threatened to strip O’Donnell of her U.S. citizenship, labeling her a “Threat to Humanity” and suggesting that she should stay in Ireland, where she moved earlier this year.
O’Donnell, who departed the U.S. with her nonbinary child, cited Trump’s potential re-election and the impact of Project 2025 as motivations for her relocation. “I have no regrets,” she stated in an interview with CNN. “I was embraced warmly.”
Their public feud began in 2006 when O’Donnell criticized Trump on The View, which led to a series of insults from him in retaliation. Since that time, their animosity has resurfaced intermittently, but Trump’s recent threat has raised legal questions.
Constitutional law expert Steve Vladeck described the statement as “patently unconstitutional,” emphasizing that the U.S. government possesses very limited power to revoke citizenship, particularly without due process.
O’Donnell responded on Instagram, ridiculing Trump as “King Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan,” and pledged to remain vocal. During an appearance on Ireland’s RTE Radio 1, she referred to Trump as a “danger to the world” and voiced her concerns regarding his increasing influence, despite existing legal constraints.
“This is not America. This is not democracy,” she asserted.
Although O’Donnell currently resides overseas, her voice continues to pose a significant challenge to Trump, raising important questions about political expression, authority, and the limits of presidential power in a deeply divided America.
